Tips on how to Live your Best Life

With the Holiday and New Year quickly approaching we start to take stock of the things we have accomplished this year and those we set out to accomplish in the coming year. One of the goals that is typically always on my list and seems to be a common ground we all human share is - to be happy! It sounds simple to some and to others it‘s an ongoing thing we strive at daily. Or we search for a “magic” quick fix to make us feel happier...but it doesn't last.

So, how do we ultimately live life more joyful? How do we start living the life we have always dreamed of?

First things first, we were all put on this earth to live life to the fullest and live out our deepest desires. It is your birthright to live life freely, joyful and abundantly. And it all starts with You! It may not be easy but it is the simple, minor adjustments, you do everyday that leads to great success and a happy fulfilled life.


Tip #1 - Practice Gratitude.


Start off everyday with a running list of all the things you are thankful for - (waking up in your cozy bed, clean running water to shower, morning coffee, etc, etc. ) You will find that this will start your day with the right mindset and will make you feel generally happier and more content. Gratitude is a thankful appreciation for what you have already received in this life. Tangible or intangible. When you spend time each day acknowledging all that is good in life, you’ll see there is more good than you realize. You will also find that sadness, anxiety and depression cannot live in a grateful heart.

Tip #2 - Setting Intentions, Journaling, Goal Setting.


This is very important in creating the life you want to live. When you set intentions you are more likely to act with purpose and drive. Setting intentions with a mantra, will help you form a clearer path to know what you need to accomplish. Goal setting and intention setting are nearly the same concept. When setting intentions you decide what kind of emotions, what kind of positive feelings, and what you are seeking. By intending to do something or become something, you are that much closer to living the life that you desire. An easy way to establish intentions is by writing them down or journaling every morning, week, or month - whichever works best for you. This exercise will allow you to gain a clear vision of what you want from life.

Tip #3 - Visualizing.


Hand-in-hand with intention-setting is visualization. Once you have a clear vision of what intentions or goals you want to achieve, it is important to take action. Taking action can seem scary and intimidating, or even impossible. Visualization is almost like a test-run of your dream life. It helps to further establish what you want and allow you to settle into a positive mindset. During visualization, you must choose your focus. Choose a specific intention and how you will feel once it is accomplished. Then, take the time to dream and dream big. Olympic athletes have used Visualization for years to prepare for their events.

Tip #4 - Healthy Body + Movement.


When you feel good, you look good and there is almost nothing you can’t accomplish! Taking good care of your physical health is one essential part of improving your overall well-being. Taking the time and effort to plan your meals, cook at home more often and exersize regularly are additional ways to set yourself up for long term success. Try starting by incorporating more whole foods into your diet. Go for walks in the evenings or take a break right after work to do some yoga. It’s all about balance when it comes to sustainable healthy habits.

Tip #5 - Healthy Mind + Meditation.


It may seem overrated, especially on the days when it seems too difficult to sit still, but meditation is an amazing practice for mental health and clarity. Meditation is a commonly used practice to take a break from the hustle and bustle of life to get back in tune with your inner self. It works by bringing awareness and attention to the present moment. It’s about being nonjudgmental and accepting how you are feeling. Practicing mindfulness means being present and aware of the moment. Accepting what we are going through decreases stress and helps us to see situations for what they are. Through mindfulness, we can find peace.

Tip #6 - Do more of what makes you happy.


This is pretty simple and seems to be a no brainer but it’s so important to the quality of your life to enjoy what you fill your day with. It’s pretty hard to maintain happiness if you hate your job or your everyday activities. You only have one life to live so fill it with all the things you enjoy doing. I know we all have to work, run errands and pay bills. But try to incorporate more of the things you love to do and less of the things you don’t. What are you interested in? What fulfills you in a creative way? What are you truly passionate about? Focus on building a life around the areas that motivate you and it will provide you with a high level of satisfaction, happiness and success.

Tip # 7 - Spend time with people you feel good around.


This is so important! Ever hang out with a gloomy person and leave feeling sad and bummed out? That’s because moods can be contagious. Feelings can be transferred from one person to another, and the more we share experiences with one another, the more our emotions and behaviors become synchronized. One secret to long-term happiness is surrounding yourself with people who you feel good, inspired and happy around.

Tip #8 - Practice Self Care.


You may work hard on your relationship with others but forget to put in as much time into the relationship with yourself. Learn to practice self-love daily. Creating your dream life will not happen if you are neglecting yourself and your emotional state. It is important to check in with yourself throughout the day. Listen to your intuition and go with what feels best for you. Take time to pamper yourself when needed, enjoy a bubble bath, get a massage, go for a long walk, create something, read, etc, etc. Your body and mind will always know what is best for you, you just have to listen.
