Tips for keeping your summer bod during the Holiday months


It's that time of year again! You are looking forward to the holiday season but dreading that extra weight you pack on during the holiday months. I get it, I'm in the same boat as you! The days are shorter, temperatures are dropping and all we really want to do is spend our mornings sleeping in and baking cookies at night. Well, what if... you keep that summer bod? What if you look just as fabulous in that fitted Christmas dress as you did at your brother's wedding this July? What if you can enjoy the holiday season and still feel your best?

TIP #1 - Planning

Take an hour every Sunday and plan out your week to set yourself up for success. This is the most important way to keep yourself on track. Schedule in a workout once a day and plan your meals ahead of time, including on-the-go healthy snacks. By planning ahead, you will hold yourself more accountable to checking it off your list and it will save you from making last minute poor decisions when it comes to food.

TIP #2 - Exercise first thing in the morning

Moving your body first thing in the morning sets the day right and helps your body stay stress-free during this busy season. Plus, getting your workout done and out of the way early in the day ensures nothing comes between you and your fitness goals. Get yourself into a routine to make it happen everyday. No excuses. Even if it is a quick 20 minute fast walk in the morning while your family is in town. Just think of it as part of your morning routine (like coffee) !

TIP #3 - Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

Your brain can sometimes confuse thirst with hunger. Make sure to drink half your weight in ounces a day to stay hydrated. Also, consider drinking a large glass of water before a meal so you don't over indulge during the holiday meals (especially before considering seconds!) it can help lessen the amount of food your brain thinks is a good idea to consume.

TIP#4 - Keep Moving

In addition to staying active, try to avoid sitting for prolonged periods of time, such as when watching football games or eating. Research shows that getting up for just five minutes every 30 to 60 minutes and performing light activity (doing the dishes, folding laundry and walking around) will keep you healthy and staying fit.

TIP #5 - Start a Healthy tradition

Memorable moments are part of what make the holidays so special, and the season offers a chance to create a healthy tradition to look forward to each year. Whether you rally your friends to run a local 3K turkey race, or take your family for a neighborhood Christmas lights stroll, incorporating healthy active events into your families tradition is so beneficial.
