Healthy tips during the Holiday Season

Updated: Dec 9, 2019

Winter has quickly approached and the Holiday season is here! This is my favorite time of year and I love how much time we get to share with our family & friends. However, this season also brings the dreaded cold and flu season. The temperatures have dropped, we are traveling more, attending holiday parties, sharing lots of hugs and maybe even a mistletoe kiss or two...

With these tips, I'm hoping that we can all prepare ourselves by helping to be more proactive and stay healthy during the Holiday Season and into the New Year -

# 1 - Drink warm lemon water

Its important to stay hydrated during this season and lemon water contain a lot of vitamin C that helps to boost your immune system and helps aid digestion, flushing out toxins and cleansing your liver. Lemon is also an alkalizer so drinking warm lemon water in the morning raises your body's PH and promotes healthy cell function and structure which creates a less inviting environment for bacteria and viruses.

# 2 - Eat fresh ginger

Ginger has been used for many years to help treat the common cold and flu. Studies have shown that steeping just 2 tablespoons of fresh ginger root in hot water and drinking it just two or three times each day will help to prevent the cold and flu. Instead of treating those symptoms when they appear, you can actually help to prevent yourself from experiencing them. Just drink the ginger tea a couple times each day during the cold and flu season and you may not have to worry about ever feeling sick.

# 3 - Soups, soups & more soup

While salads are great for the summer, raw foods can actually be hard on your body during the colder months. Make a big batch of your favorite healthy soup and pack that for lunch instead of packing a salad or sandwich. It's helpful to include immunity boosting ingredients like cayenne, lemon, bell peppers, ginger, turmeric and lots of garlic.

# 4 - Bath with salts + Oils

Unless you’re getting your cardio in at the gym everyday, chances are you’re not sweating enough in the winter, making you more susceptible to cold and flu. Soaking in a warm bath on the regular basis will help your body sweat out toxins and keep you in tip top shape. Also, by adding a touch of salts and natural oils, this will help your body de-stress and relax during the busy holiday season.

Now go light a few candles, fill the tub and enjoy the easiest sweat you’ve ever had.

#5 - Plenty of ZZZ's

The busy holiday season is not the time to skimp on your eight hours of sleep. Recent studies have found that those who only got six hours sleep in comparison to those who got at least seven were four times more likely to catch a cold. Make a conscious effort to get a good, full nights rest and your body will thank you.

#6 - Lots & lots of laughter

Don't forget to enjoy yourself this time of year. Don't overthink perfecting the holidays or stressing, its just not worth it. Studies have found that laughter decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies, thus improving your resistance to cold and flu. So remember to laugh (a lot), enjoy time with family & friends and have a wonderful Holiday Season!

Here's to being Healthy and Happy!~

Much love to you! xx
